City officials prepare to maintain safety amid influx of tourists and events
Kelowna is preparing for another bustling summer season with community events, outdoor activities, and an influx of tourists. With the arrival of warmer weather, the city’s safety resources are being mobilized to ensure a vibrant, clean, and secure environment for residents and visitors.
RCMP and Bylaw Enforcement Officers will be visibly active across Kelowna throughout the summer. They will coordinate additional resources to meet the demands of the busy season.
“Summer is one of the most exciting and busiest times of year for both Kelowna residents and tourists alike,” said Kevin Mead, Acting Community Safety Director. He expressed enthusiasm for the opening of water parks, events like ‘Meet Me on Bernard,’ and gatherings with friends and family.
The City’s safety team and partners are working together to maintain a safe space for living, working, and playing. The Bylaw Services team will extend operational hours and services from May through August to support these efforts.
To bolster community safety, the RCMP will enhance visible patrols and conduct crime reduction operations. Inspector Chris Goebel, RCMP Acting Officer in Charge, affirmed their readiness to ensure public safety in downtown Kelowna and surrounding communities.
Additional safety operations by RCMP officers will supplement regular services, while community patrols and clean-up crews from the Downtown Kelowna Association and Uptown Rutland Business Association continue their efforts.
Citizens are encouraged to play a role in maintaining Kelowna’s safety. Information on reporting crimes and tips for securing home and belongings can be found at kelowna.ca/safety. Community updates are available on the city’s website and through e-Subscribe notifications.
