Encouraging neighbourly connections and fostering community projects with support and grants.
Do you aspire to live in a neighborhood where community members are acquainted, vigilant, and supportive of one another? The opportunity to realize this vision is within reach.
Participate in building such a community by becoming a Block Connector or hosting a neighborhood-led project or event this fall with the assistance of a grant. We offer support for initiatives designed to bring neighbors together and enhance communal bonds.
As a Block Connector, you will engage with the 10-20 households nearest to you, whether on a block or an apartment floor. Your role involves facilitating introductions and strengthening interpersonal connections, perhaps through social gatherings or events.
Our Strong Neighbourhoods team is here to provide the necessary resources and support to make your efforts successful. Interested individuals are encouraged to learn more and sign up at kelowna.ca/blockconnector.
Qualified community members can also apply for Neighbourhood Grants, facilitated by the Central Okanagan Foundation. These grants offer up to $1,500 in matching funds to support inclusive projects aimed at building community ties.
Ideas for these projects might encompass a community garden, neighborhood beautification, block party, paint night, talent show, porch concert, or scavenger hunt, among others.
Applications for fall projects are currently open and must be submitted by Aug. 25. Grants awarded will assist projects slated for completion between October and December 2025.
