Residents encouraged to connect and enhance community ties through events and grants
Kelowna’s tenth annual Neighbour Day is set for Sunday, May 4.
Residents can celebrate by organizing block parties, meeting new neighbors, or performing acts of kindness. Participants have a chance to win a $100 gift card or a bouncy castle rental, while registrants receive a celebration package with resources to help connect with neighbors.
Community Development Coordinator Mandy Pollard emphasized the significance of neighborly acts, stating they can transform neighborhoods in meaningful ways. ‘Neighbour Day is our annual reminder that each of us plays a vital role in shaping our communities,’ Pollard said.
Residents are invited to apply for the Neighbourhood Grant and Youth Development and Engagement Grant programs for summer projects. Ideas include community clean-ups, block parties, outdoor movie nights, and porch concerts.
Applications for the Strong Neighbourhood Grant are open until May 26 for projects to be completed by September’s end. The Youth Development and Engagement Grant accepts applications on a rolling basis.
