Project aims to enhance connections and prepare for future growth.
Work is scheduled to start next week on significant upgrades to the Rutland Transit Exchange, intended to improve connectivity for riders across the region and support future service expansion.
The project, which is anticipated to reach completion by October 2025, will include various enhancements to the current exchange.
Commuters can expect some construction-related impacts and are urged to follow safety personnel instructions, as well as pay attention to posted construction signage and fencing to ensure safety in the area.
The City of Kelowna and construction crews appreciate patience during this time and offer apologies in advance for any inconveniences caused.
The Rutland Exchange improvements are part of the broader Kelowna Exchanges Project, a collaborative effort between BC Transit and the City of Kelowna.
The initiative, which received $9.2 million in funding, aims to deliver substantial transit upgrades that provide affordable, efficient, and reliable transportation to the city.
In addition to the Rutland Exchange, other locations such as the Okanagan College Transit Exchange and the Mission Recreation Transit Exchange will also benefit from these funds.
The Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia, and the City of Kelowna are contributing partners to these projects through the Public Transit Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
