Public invited to grand opening with local officials and light refreshments
The Bertram Multiuse Overpass will officially open on Friday, June 6, inviting the public to be among the first to experience the new crossing.
The opening ceremony will feature speeches and light refreshments, with Mayor Tom Dyas, members of the Council and the Hon. Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs expected to attend.
Providing a comfortable and accessible route over Highway 97, the overpass will cater to pedestrians, wheelchair users, scooter riders, and cyclists.
The passageway will link the growing neighborhoods on the south side of Highway 97 to Downtown and future connections to the active transportation network.
Residents and workers on both sides of the highway can look forward to enhanced access to parks, workplaces, transit, businesses, services, and amenities.
The $12.1 million project is a result of collaboration between the City of Kelowna, the Government of Canada, and the Province of British Columbia.
The Government of Canada supported the project with $4 million through the Canada Community Building Fund, while the Province of BC contributed $7.2 million from the Growing Communities Fund.
