Sustainable building practices yield milestone in Kelowna’s terminal expansion.
The Kelowna International Airport is pleased to announce a milestone in its terminal expansion with the completion of the mass timber roof structure.
The project exemplifies the airport’s commitment to sustainable practices, incorporating innovative building materials that reflect community values.
With the help of a $500,000 grant from the Mass Timber Demonstration Program, the expansion showcases British Columbia’s leadership in wood design and engineering.
Local character is highlighted through the use of mass timber, drawing on the region’s natural beauty and heritage.
Crafted at Kalesnikoff’s facility in Castlegar, B.C., the innovative wood panels were pre-fabricated using digital technology, ensuring precision and efficiency.
This approach supports the economy and job creation in the forestry and construction sectors, utilizing 788m3 of wood sourced from the Slocan Valley.
The airport terminal expansion is slated for completion in 2026, with further details available on ylw.kelowna.ca/atb.
