Officials emphasize safety as Canada Day approached in Kelowna, with increased patrols and fire precautions.
Canada Day marks one of Kelowna’s busiest summer celebrations, and local authorities are urging residents and visitors to prioritize safety.
Kevin Mead, Acting Community Safety Director, emphasized the importance of safety, as the city’s operations teams and community partners collaborate to ensure a secure celebration.
To maintain safety, Kelowna RCMP and Bylaw Services are increasing patrols across downtown and neighborhoods, utilizing foot, bike, and vehicle teams, along with specialized patrols in challenging areas.
The Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) will also expand support with personnel on the ground offering event operations assistance, and deploying a marine rescue boat.
While a fireworks permit has been approved for the celebrations, KFD will monitor weather, especially for wildfire risks, potentially postponing displays if conditions are unsafe.
Assistant Fire Chief Dennis Craig highlighted ongoing drought conditions, stressing the prohibition of campfires, fireworks, and similar items under existing bans.
Residents are encouraged to contribute to safety efforts by reporting concerns and utilizing available resources, including Kelowna’s Bylaw Services and RCMP.
Key contact numbers and online resources are available for emergencies, non-emergency police matters, and reporting bylaw infractions.
