City’s initiative helps grow urban forest and enhance property aesthetics this fall

Kelowna residents are being encouraged to plant NeighbourWoods trees this fall to enhance the city’s urban forest while beautifying their properties.

The popular residential planting initiative returns, allowing residents to purchase up to two new trees at a reduced rate. Trees can be pre-ordered starting Monday, Sept. 8, until Sept. 26 or until stocks last.

Available tree varieties this fall include the Bur Oak, Dropmore Linden, Ivory Silk Japanese Tree Lilac, Parkland Pillar Birch, and Prairie Splendor Maple, priced at $50 each plus GST.

Up to two trees per household can be purchased, with the exception of the Ivory Silk Japanese Tree Lilac, limited to one per household.

The NeighbourWoods pick-up event will occur on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mission Recreation Park Arboretum, 4105 Gordon Drive. Attendees should bring proof of purchase, residency, and a suitable vehicle for transporting the trees.

Additionally, about 200 native saplings will be available for purchase at the NeighbourWoods Pop-Up during the 2nd annual Tree Festival on Sunday, September 21, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Rutland Centennial Park. Free parking will be provided at Roxby Square.
