Event to cause downtown and waterfront disruptions this weekend
The Kelowna Apple Triathlon is slated to make its return this weekend on August 9 and 10, kickstarting and concluding at City Park.
Although the race predominantly uses waterfront pathways and bike lanes, significant traffic impacts are anticipated downtown and along Abbott Street to Gyro Beach on Saturday, extending through the Mission area on Sunday.
Traffic control personnel will be stationed to assist with directing flow, and motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes to avoid delays. Detailed traffic impacts are available at appleraceseries.com/traffic-impact-1.
Parking within the downtown vicinity will be affected. Specifically, the Water Street boat launch and parking area will be closed on Saturday, August 9, between 6 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The Lakefront Promenade, spanning City Park to Waterfront Park, will host the triathlon’s running segment from around 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. City Park will remain accessible to the public during the event.
Due to road closures, transit operations may face adjustments. Updated information on roadwork, closures, or possible delays can be found at kelowna.ca/roadreport.
