A significant boost to Kelowna’s arts and culture scene with the reopening of Waterfront Park stage.
The ribbon has been officially cut on the newly revitalized Waterfront Park stage, marking the completion of a $1.8 million project.
This revitalization effort was largely supported by a nearly $1 million Destination Development grant from the Province of British Columbia, aimed at enhancing Kelowna’s cultural life and economic vibrancy.
“Kelowna is a hub for culture, entertainment, and world-class events,” said Mayor Tom Dyas. “The revitalized Waterfront Park stage will provide a vibrant space for concerts, festivals, and community celebrations.”
The project included input from external event groups and internal staff and resulted in the replacement of the aging Waterfront Island Stage with a modern, low-maintenance structure.
Features of the new stage include upgraded electrical systems, event lighting, a canopy, improved accessibility, and increased event capacity.
The effort is expected to reduce emissions and maintenance needs while boosting community events, economic development, and tourism.
“Congratulations to the City of Kelowna on the reopening of the Waterfront Island Stage — a stunning space that brings people together through arts, culture, and community celebration,” said Spencer Chandra Herbert, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.
The stage is now equipped to host diverse events, from intimate concerts to large-scale festivals. For more information, visit kelowna.ca/capitalprojects.
