New partnership with Tennis Clubs of Canada aims to expand recreational tennis programs.
The City of Kelowna has joined forces with Tennis Clubs of Canada to develop a new winter tennis facility at Mission Recreation Park, alongside expanding recreational tennis programs across various neighborhoods.
Through this partnership, the City intends to promote vibrant communities with accessible and inclusive programming. Tennis Clubs of Canada will offer city-wide tennis lessons and summer camps, delivering a blend of beginner, intermediate, and performance-centric programs at numerous locations while ensuring public access to tennis courts.
“We are thrilled to partner with Tennis Clubs of Canada to bring this new facility to Mission Recreation Park and offer expanded recreational programming,” said Mayor Dyas. “Access to lessons and a new state-of-the-art facility will provide fantastic opportunities for residents of all ages and skill levels to engage in healthy, active lifestyles year-round.”
The new facility, situated in the southeast corner of Mission Recreation Park, will include five competition-standard courts with a removable lounge and administration area. It will feature a dome membrane that will be erected in winter and stored offsite in summer.
Scheduled to open in November 2025, the facility will be operated by Tennis Clubs of Canada. During the winter, TCC will provide a range of club and instructional programs for members and non-members. In summer, when the dome is removed, the courts will be freely accessible to the public.
“Kelowna loves its tennis, and we are excited to be partnering with the City of Kelowna to bring this year-round facility to the community,” said Adam Seigel, CEO of Tennis Clubs of Canada. “We look forward to players of all ages and abilities discovering this amazing sport.”
The $2.9 million project is a collaborative effort funded by the City and Tennis Clubs of Canada. The City’s contribution is projected at $650,000, with an additional $200,000 provided by Tennis Canada and Rogers under the Year-Round Community Tennis Courts Program.
