Improvements to Waterfront Park Stage necessitate closures; project funded by local government partnership.

Waterfront Park will be temporarily closed on Wednesday, May 21, as renovations commence at the park’s stage.

The closure will affect the area from Sunset Drive to the Boat Lock, including Harmony Bridge, Concession Plaza, and Tugboat Beach.

Sunset Drive will also be closed at the park entrance from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to facilitate the improvement work.

The project aims to revamp the aging Waterfront Park Stage, enhancing event opportunities and expanding public use outside event times.

Key upgrades include partial infill of the lagoon, electrical services enhancement, and a new event stage with canopy.

Funded by Kelowna City and the British Columbia Ministry of Tourism through a $1.8 million grant, the renovation adds flexibility and spectator capacity.

Closure measures aim to ensure safety as the canopy structure is delivered and installed.

Visitors are advised to heed safety personnel and signage, with strict parking prohibitions in effect on Sunset Drive.

The city appreciates public patience and advises checking road conditions at visitkelowna.ca/roadreport.
