City Reintroduces Summer Traditions Ahead of May Long Weekend
Ahead of the May long weekend, Kelowna parks and downtown are gearing up for the return of popular seasonal programs and amenities.
The ‘Meet me on Bernard’ event will launch on May 16, transforming Bernard Avenue between Abbott and Pandosy Street into a pedestrian thoroughfare. The event, running until September 14, coincides with Kelowna hosting the Canadian Country Music Association Awards.
The Bike Valet program in downtown Kelowna kicks off on May 19, offering extended hours. Cyclists can park their bikes for free on weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 9 p.m., and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Bernard Avenue and Mill Street.
Starting May 16, Kelowna’s waterparks are set to reopen for the summer. Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until June 26, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from June 27 through September 2, depending on weather conditions.
The Responsible Alcohol in Parks program resumes on May 15, allowing moderate alcohol consumption in specific park areas from noon to 9 p.m., until September 15. Participating parks include Waterfront, Boyce-Gyro, and Kinsmen Beach among others.
