The new community park offers diverse amenities for all ages and abilities.
DeHart Park has officially opened to the public, marking a significant addition to community spaces in the area. The nine-acre park, located at 687 DeHart Road, originated as a concept in 2010 and transformed into a project in 2022 through the Parks Development Cost Charge program.
The park’s design was refined through public consultation to ensure it met community needs. After construction began last spring, the park is now open, just in time for the summer season.
Mayor Tom Dyas emphasized the community-focused design of DeHart Park, highlighting various amenities. ‘This park is a place where friends can gather, residents can enjoy the outdoors, and families can create lasting memories,’ said Dyas.
DeHart Park includes preserved natural spaces and newly added features such as pickleball and basketball courts, a multi-use field, and a community garden. Additional facilities like a children’s water play area, playgrounds, and sports equipment have also been installed.
Scheduled for the summer are the construction of park washrooms and additional work on the pump track. Residents are encouraged to respect newly seeded areas to allow them to establish properly.
Mac Logan, General Manager of Infrastructure, described the park as a milestone for the Lower Mission neighbourhood. ‘It is a shining example of how we can create spaces that enhance the quality of life for our residents,’ said Logan.
The City plans 23 park projects this year, aiming to enhance recreational opportunities and community well-being. Parks contribute significantly to residents’ health and social connections.
DeHart Park offers areas for passive and active recreation, serving as a vibrant focal point for the Lower Mission community.
