Annual bike race prompts road closures and detours, affecting motorists and transit.

The Cherry Blossom Triathlon is set to take place on Sunday, May 4, prompting a series of traffic disruptions and transit changes in the area.

Participants will follow a clockwise-loop bike course starting at H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre. The route continues through Gordon Drive, Casorso Road, Swamp Road, and Dehart Road, returning back to Gordon.

In response to the event, one-lane closures will be enforced from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m., affecting traffic flow significantly.

Motorists should note that left turns from Lequime Road onto Gordon Drive will be prohibited. Detours are available via Cook Road or Lexington Drive.

Minor delays are anticipated from 7:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. at key intersections such as Lexington and Gordon, Lequime and Gordon, Old Meadows and Gordon, and Bartholomew and Dehart as participants cross. Traffic control personnel will manage these intersections.

A section of the parking lot in front of H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre will remain closed to accommodate the transition area and finish line. Exiting the parking lot is via Lequime Road only.

Transit users should be aware of closed stops on the east side of Gordon Drive from Dehart to Casorso Roads between 7:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Expect possible minor service disruptions on routes around Gordon Drive and Lequime Road.

Bus #5 will reroute via Gordon Drive at Lequime Road, avoiding the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre’s front. Complete transit schedules are available at bctransit.com/kelowna.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead to sidestep potential delays and refer to kelowna.ca/roadreport for current roadwork and closure updates.
