KLO Bridge and roundabout improvements set to begin on April 14
Starting the week of Monday, April 14, construction will commence on KLO Road between Leader Road and Hall Road, focusing on enhancing the KLO Bridge and roundabout.
Two lanes of traffic will remain open across KLO Road utilizing the old bridge while a new bridge is built upstream. Periodically, single lane alternating traffic may be necessary. Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution and consider alternate routes.
The project may also prompt intermittent closures of the Greenway. During such times, users will be rerouted to Leader Road, bypassing the construction area.
The current KLO Bridge is approaching the end of its service life, necessitating replacement due to factors such as aging infrastructure and safety concerns. The new bridge will improve upon these issues with a 35-meter clear span and a higher elevation to handle flood flows.
Complementary to the bridge improvements, a new roundabout at KLO and Spiers Road is planned to enhance traffic flow and safety. Additional project elements include utility updates and riparian habitat enhancements.
This infrastructure project is funded by the City of Kelowna in partnership with the Government of Canada and the Province of BC through various funding programs.
Construction is scheduled for weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with possible work outside these hours to reduce the overall project duration. Safety measures will be implemented to safeguard road users.
The City of Kelowna requests patience throughout the construction period and apologizes for any disruptions. Route plans can be reviewed at visitkelowna.ca/roadreport.
