2024 progress report reveals gains in transportation, safety, and housing

Kelowna City Council was presented with the 2024 progress report on March 17, detailing advancements on key community issues. The report encompasses seven priority areas with 24 specific measures and shows positive trends in half of them.

The report, covering the first two years of the current council term, highlights improvements in five areas: Transportation, Crime & Safety, Agriculture, Homelessness, and Affordable Housing. These areas have seen significant progress.

However, progress on Climate & Environment remains challenging, with some measures showing no change or poor trends. The Economy, added as a priority in mid-2024, is set to show progress throughout 2025.

Mayor Dyas expressed pride in the city’s achievements, emphasizing the council’s alignment with community needs. ‘Together with our corporate team, we’re exploring ways to accelerate progress,’ he said.

The annual progress reports represent the city’s commitment to transparency and accountability, illustrating the impact of council priorities. Additionally, a separate report indicates positive trends in internal city operations.

Key developments include improved alignment of budget and service priorities, expanded digital service capacity, and enhanced leadership skills among staff.

Mike McGreer, Manager of Corporate Strategy and Performance, highlighted the importance of performance measures in guiding decision-making. The reports are accessible online for public review.
